The C5’s fit and handling are both products of an innovative new frame geometry.
BBRIGHT - THIS ASYMMETRICAL 79MM BOTTOM-BRACKET STANDARD YIELDS STIFFER AND LIGHTER FRAMES AND CRANK SYSTEMS.
Cervelo developed BBright to take advantage of the fact that oversized frame tubes are stiffer and lighter. On the right side, frame tubes are already as wide as possible; any wider and they’d hit the chainrings. But on the left side there are no chainrings, so BBright makes use of this extra space by extending the BB shell by 11 millimetres, nearly doubling the width of the left chainstay. At the same time, the drive-side dimensions of the frame are identical to BB30 and provide plenty of clearance for a wide range of cranks, including those with power meters.

CARBON DROPOUTS - TOUGH, COMPRESSION-MOLDED DROPOUTS SAVE WEIGHT WITH NO SACRIFICE IN STRENGTH COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL METAL DROPOUTS.
Seatstays and chainstays are bonded into hollow dropouts, instead of the other way around. Bonding these precision-moulded surfaces reduces weight, and gives the internal rear derailleur cable a straight shot through the chainstay and dropout, eliminating bends and cable friction.
EVOLVED STEERER DESIGN - THE FORK STEERER’S DIAMETER HAS A NOTICEABLE EFFECT ON A BIKE’S HANDLING. EVOLVED STEERER DESIGN APPLIES THE DIAMETERS AND TAPER DESIGNS THAT BEST SUIT EACH MODEL.
A larger steerer diameter adds torsional stiffness with no weight penalty. A smaller steerer diameter is more compliant and can also be used to reduce headtube frontal area, and in turn, aerodynamic drag. How do we select which size to use? By defining performance goals — weight savings, aerodynamics, stiffness, ride quality and usability — at the start of the frame design process, Cervélo engineers choose the best steerer diameters/tapers to achieve those objectives.
REDUCED-FRICTION BB GUIDE - SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCES CABLE FRICTION IN THE BOTTOM BRACKET, WHICH MEANS SMOOTHER SHIFTING, EASIER SETUP AND LONGER SERVICE INTERVALS.
The Reduced-Friction BB Guide maintains a consistent curve for each cable path by avoiding bends or kinks.
SQUOVAL - THIS LIBRARY OF TUBE SHAPES ALLOWS CERVELO ENGINEERS TO “DIAL IN” THE WEIGHT-SAVING, AERO, STIFFNESS AND COMPLIANCE PROPERTIES THAT BEST SUIT SPECIFIC AREAS OF A FRAME.
Square shapes resist bending the best, while round shapes are tops when it comes to torsion. Since different frame tubes see a variable mix of bending and torsional loads, a careful combination of these shapes can offer the best of both worlds. Enter Squoval, which combines the attributes of a square and an oval to achieve an ideal balance of stiffness, weight and aerodynamics.
ENGINEERED TO ENDURE
The C5 is engineered to extend your season and help you go further, faster on a range of surfaces.
Rider confidence can’t be measured in a laboratory or wind tunnel. Cervélo is renowned for its engineering-driven approach to building the world’s fastest and lightest road, track, triathlon and time-trial bicycles, but the success of the C5 won’t be measured in WorldTour victories or Olympic gold medals. Rather, our engineering team used its profound understanding of pro athletes’ bicycle requirements to skillfully balance performance with ride quality.
A single-piece rear triangle and wide seatstays boost back-end and bottom-bracket stiffness, allowing weight reduction to be the focus of the carbon-fibre layup elsewhere across the C5 frame. The result: At 850 grams with paint and all small parts, the C5 is the lightest endurance road frame on the market today.
Two proprietary features perfectly compliment the C5’s damped ride effect: An American-manufactured all-carbon fork — a product of Cervélo’s pioneering Project California team — which skillfully balances lateral stiffness with comforting vertical compliance; and unique curved seatstays, which were engineered to provide a high vertical deflection.
Longer chainstays add trail-balance handling at the front end and boost tire clearance to 28mm, providing room for a standard fender and fender mount. A downtube rock guard and chainstay protector help prevent potential damage on mixed surfaces, while through-axles, flat-mount calipers and Future-Proof internal cable routing deliver smooth shifting every time.
ENDURANCE-CENTRED SIZE AND SPEC
The ultimate endurance road bike wouldn’t be complete without industry-leading components and a fit that inspires confidence wherever the ride takes you.
The ultimate endurance frame demands the most advanced components. Both the Dura-Ace Di2 9070 and Dura-Ace 9000 11-speed groupsets feature Shimano BR-RS805 hydraulic disc-brake calipers with RT99 rotors, Ardennes Plus LT Disc wheels, Continental Grand Prix 180 tpi tires and Rotor 3D+ BBright cranks.
Moving the bottom bracket closer to the ground lowers the bike’s centre of gravity, improving stability and handling. Longer chainstays, a shallower headtube angle and additional fork rake increase trail and boost tire clearance, allowing for a wider range of tire sizes and room for a fender. All of this also produces a very stable, smooth and reliable ride.
