S3 Disc - A Workhorse Unleashed
Cervelo has taken everything that makes the S3 such an aero class leader and made it stronger, stiffer and ultimately, faster. They only launch a new bike when significant performance gains have been made, and by integrating their disc-brake technologies into the world championship-winning S3 they've done exactly that. The S3 Disc is stiffer and more aerodynamic than its rim-brake counterpart, while continuing to make the most of the lightweight design rooted in their Project California research facility. All of this translates to superior handling and control, giving you the confidence to pull away from the peloton or put the hurt on a Saturday morning group ride.
Paired with Shimano's 11-speed Ultegra Di2 drivetrain, you've got a bike that's a pleasure to ride and will never hold you back!
Control. Consistency. In All Conditions With improved stiffness, aero performance, handling and control, the S3 Disc combines savage speed with pleasing versatility.
Faster By Design Free from the design constraints of rim brakes, the S3 Disc has been re-engineered to be stiffer, lighter and more aerodynamic. In a word, to be faster.
BBRIGHT - This Asymmetrical 79mm Bottom-Bracket Standard Yields Stiffer And Lighter Frames And Crank Systems. Cervelo developed BBright to take advantage of the fact that oversized frame tubes are stiffer and lighter. On the right side, frame tubes are already as wide as possible; any wider and they’d hit the chainrings. But on the left side there are no chainrings, so BBright makes use of this extra space by extending the BB shell by 11 millimetres, nearly doubling the width of the left chainstay. At the same time, the drive-side dimensions of the frame are identical to BB30 and provide plenty of clearance for a wide range of cranks, including those with power meters.
Carbon Dropouts - Tough, compression-molded dropouts save weight with no sacrifice in strength compared to traditional metal dropouts. Seatstays and chainstays are bonded into hollow dropouts, instead of the other way around. Bonding these precision-moulded surfaces reduces weight, and gives the internal rear derailleur cable a straight shot through the chainstay and dropout, eliminating bends and cable friction.
Evolved Steerer Design - The fork steerer’s diameter has a noticeable effect on a bike’s handling. Evolved steerer design applies the diameters and taper designs that best suit each model. A larger steerer diameter adds torsional stiffness with no weight penalty. A smaller steerer diameter is more compliant and can also be used to reduce headtube frontal area, and in turn, aerodynamic drag. How do we select which size to use? By defining performance goals — weight savings, aerodynamics, stiffness, ride quality and usability — at the start of the frame design process, Cervélo engineers choose the best steerer diameters/tapers to achieve those objectives.
Future-Proof Cable Management - Ensures your frame is compatible with all current and future derailleur and brake systems. Future-Proof Cable Management achieves compatibility across mechanical, electronic and hydraulic brake and derailleur systems. Future-Proof frames include interchangeable cable stops that snap into place and are easily swapped out by hand to accommodate upgrades. You can buy with confidence, knowing your bike is easily upgradable and can be enjoyed with the latest technology for years to come.
Partial Seat Tube Cutout - A close-fitting curve in the seat-tube’s trailing edge improves aerodynamics by partially shielding the leading edge and top of the rear wheel. As with the Extended Seat Tube Cutout, the frame must fit closely to the tire, and the seat-tube cross section must have the right shape to help air flow smoothly across the seat-tube and around the wheel. Compared to the extended cutout, the partial version gives up a bit of aero to save a little weight.
Reduced-Friction BB Guide - Significantly reduces cable friction in the bottom bracket, which means smoother shifting, easier setup and longer service intervals. The Reduced-Friction BB Guide maintains a consistent curve for each cable path by avoiding bends or kinks.
