SPRINT, CORNER, CLIMB. REPEAT.
With lineage straight from the category-defining Soloist, the original S2 design set standards that are now copied across the aero road segment. To redefine this model we had to imagine the perfect S2 experience — the last sprint on your Saturday morning group ride, or a long, solo straightaway at the edge of town — and make every part of that ride better. The new S2 is a bike that delivers maximum performance at a value-conscious price. Wherever your personal finish line is, we’ll get you there faster.
Premium Project California-engineered Core Design Features give the S2 pro-level performance, with Future-Proof Cable Management, Partial Seat-Tube Cut Out, and Carbon Drop Outs.
BBRIGHT: This asymmetrical 79mm bottom-bracket standard yields stiffer and lighter frames and crank systems.
Cervelo developed BBright to take advantage of the fact that oversized frame tubes are stiffer and lighter. On the right side, frame tubes are already as wide as possible; any wider and they’d hit the chainrings. But on the left side there are no chainrings, so BBright makes use of this extra space by extending the BB shell by 11 millimetres, nearly doubling the width of the left chainstay. At the same time, the drive-side dimensions of the frame are identical to BB30 and provide plenty of clearance for a wide range of cranks, including those with power meters.
PARTIAL SEAT TUBE CUTOUT: A close-fitting curve in the seat-tube’s trailing edge improves aerodynamics by partially shielding the leading edge and top of the rear wheel.
As with the Extended Seat Tube Cutout, the frame must fit closely to the tire, and the seat-tube cross section must have the right shape to help air flow smoothly across the seat-tube and around the wheel. Compared to the extended cutout, the partial version gives up a bit of aero to save a little weight.
FUTURE-PROOF CABLE MANAGEMENT: Ensures your frame is compatible with all current and future derailleur and brake systems.
Future-Proof Cable Management achieves compatibility across mechanical, electronic and hydraulic brake and derailleur systems. Future-Proof frames include interchangeable cable stops that snap into place and are easily swapped out by hand to accommodate upgrades. You can buy with confidence, knowing your bike is easily upgradable and can be enjoyed with the latest technology for years to come.
CARBON DROPOUTS: Tough, compression-molded dropouts save weight with no sacrifice in strength compared to traditional metal dropouts.
Seatstays and chainstays are bonded into hollow dropouts, instead of the other way around. Bonding these precision-moulded surfaces reduces weight, and gives the internal rear derailleur cable a straight shot through the chainstay and dropout, eliminating bends and cable friction.
EVOLVED STEERER DESIGN: The fork steerer’s diameter has a noticeable effect on a bike’s handling. Evolved steerer design applies the diameters and taper designs that best suit each model.
A larger steerer diameter adds torsional stiffness with no weight penalty. A smaller steerer diameter is more compliant and can also be used to reduce headtube frontal area, and in turn, aerodynamic drag. How do we select which size to use? By defining performance goals — weight savings, aerodynamics, stiffness, ride quality and usability — at the start of the frame design process, Cervélo engineers choose the best steerer diameters/tapers to achieve those objectives.
REDUCED-FRICTION BB GUIDE: Significantly reduces cable friction in the bottom bracket, which means smoother shifting, easier setup and longer service intervals.
The Reduced-Friction BB Guide maintains a consistent curve for each cable path by avoiding bends or kinks.
PERFORMANCE WITHOUT COMPROMISE
The new S2 features industry-leading aerodynamics derived from our benchmark S5, and also borrows the Rca’s rear triangle design to offer class-leading comfort and compliance. The perfect balance: Stiffness without compromising aerodynamics; value without compromising performance.
If the S2 is your first foray into the aero bike segment, you may be an easy convert. With all our key aero features, such as our partial seat-tube cutout, you may notice you’re coasting a lot more in the paceline. When aero meets confident handling and moderate geometry, you’ll be anxious to reach top speeds.
True efficiency doesn’t only come from cheating the wind: the S2’s increased stiffness maximizes your power output. Our Evolved Steerer Design boosts stiffness by 32% from the previous S2, for confident, responsive handling. Race-ready stiffness is aided by BBright for a 20% increase in BB stiffness from the previous S2.
The S2 is the perfect choice for the athlete who wants cutting-edge aero performance without fear of obsolescence: non-proprietary components are easy to upgrade, while Future-Proof cable management is ready for electronic, mechanical, or hydraulic shifting. Now with 700x25c tire clearance so that you can chase top speeds over any road conditions.
